Subscription Form Upgrades

Our subscription form on this website is always a work in progress, but I wanted to post about a recent minor upgrade that we had to do. It seems that a lot of people are not quite familiar with which country they live in, or that it may be important to actually put the right country into the form. I will admit, I have just thrown values into web forms assuming that since I provided a US mailing address, it's obvious that I am in America. Seems reasonable. The issue with us is that the subscription form uses your country of origin to determine whether or not to charge international shipping charges to your subscription.

In short, due to what I would consider a large amount of errors (enough to where we had to make changes), we installed some JavaScript validation that will ensure that depending on the state you choose in the drop-down menu the correct country is also chosen. I know, it's surprising that we would have to do that. However, it will prevent people from pulling down "Manitoba" in the states field and then "United States" in the country field. It goes much deeper than that, and will essentially sound an alarm when you try and provide a combination that won't work. Hopefully this will ensure that everyone gets their printed issues.

On this note, I would like to encourage all of our subscribers to log into their account on our website and click "My Account" at the top right of the screen. Then choose "Update Profile" and make sure that your mailing address and email information are correct. We have also recently installed a feature requiring subscribers to verify their email account before completing their subscription because we have seen a LOT of mis-spelled email addresses. If your profile is set to me@mydomain.com you are probably not receiving the emails that you should. To ensure that we provide the best service, please take the time to update profile information. Thank you.

Update: We no longer offer subscriptions to our printed magazine. Please pardon any confusion.
