Welcome to our Development Blog
Hello! My name is Brian Getting, and I am the editor here at Practical eCommerce magazine. As the guy in charge of the website, this blog will be an outlet for me to discuss website design and development issues. If you are reading this, it means that I have finished developing our new website, and have all kinds of things to talk about.
Currently the site is about a week or two out from being launched, but it will be a huge improvement for our web presence. We're opening up a whole bunch of articles for public viewing, as well as adding premium article topics and features for our subscribers. In addition, the site is much easier to navigate now, allowing our readers to find articles by topic, by issue, or search for content.
Our directory has been improved to allow ecommerce related companies to post a link and describe their products or services. Upload PDF white papers to our site to get your product or service information out there. Both are completely free.
Don't forget that we are adding RSS feeds for all of our articles, allowing our readers to subscribe to the feeds. For our partners, we can implement custom RSS feeds allowing them to "cherry pick" articles from our database for presentation to their customers. And since we do it all using RSS, the delivered content is always fresh. That should be an exciting feature for our partners.
Last but not least, we are adding a whole new podcasting section to our site. Currently we are podcasting our monthly interviews, but we will soon be podcasting our website profiles as well as an anticipated weekly podcast. Check out our podcasting section or find us on iTunes to subscribe.
Well, I need to get back to developing the site. There is still a ton to do. As I finish up the new site (at least, get it ready for launch. I don't think it will ever be "finished") I will be posting blog entries here. Hopefully it will give a good feel for the kinds of topics that will be covered in this blog. Hopefully it is useful information for those reading it.
