Welcome Groovy Grandma!
We are proud parents of our own new little “division”. We, Redhatsbyyou.com, are initiating a second business, albeit slowly, called “Groovy Grandma“. Currently this division exists as a mere page in our gift shop. The women who shop on our site are mostly over the age of 50. It’s safe to say that many are grandmothers. So we felt that we could spread our wings a little and offer a new product line outside the realm of red and purple merchandise. Groovy Grandma items are fun gifts for grandmothers to give and receive.
We may experience some really uncomfortable growing pains. Since we are two stay-at-home-moms, this biz operates out of our homes. I handle all web design, blog maintenance, product photography, product design (ie. custom hats) etc., at my home. But Lee Ann handles all bookkeeping, ordering, shipping, and fulfillment at her home. Right now, if you can picture it, there’s a large bedroom upstairs FULL of hats, boas, satin gloves, and the like, and it’s spilling into every little free corner of her house. Where’s the groovy grandma stuff going to go? And furthermore, as the business grows, I’ll be responsible for two fully functioning ecommerce sites to maintain. …yikes…
It’s our hope, of course, that our new division starts slowly and gains momentum. Groovy Grandma.com benefits from valuable lessons learned at Redhatsbyyou.com, right down to the way the new site will be optimized for search engines (thanks to Brian Getting!, the Practical eCommerce SEO guru!)
But I can’t get ahead of myself here. Our new division starts as a page, hopefully it will follow in the footsteps of redhatsbyyou.com and grow at a steady, manageable pace and develop into it’s own site. Keep your fingers crossed for us.
