Upselling to move product & increase individual sales

I wanted to share something that is so simple, but works like a charm. It's called upselling, and in most shopping carts you can do it fairly easily. For instance, Buy $20 worth of anything and automatically, at checkout, your customer is offered a specific product at a reduced price (or not). I can build in as many of these offers as i want. I can offer it specific to certain products, ie. buy a red fedora and get offered a hat sizer. It's a great tool, and I think is often overlooked as an effort to boost individual sales. I use upselling to move product that I have too much of, or maybe I paid too much for, and it's really effective. It's also a great way to get everyone to see a product. They have to look at it, and click yes or no!

I only profile products that are about $15 or less. Our upsale option appears after the customer initiates checkout, so it's presented as a special deal based on what they've purchased. I think my customers like seeing deals that are just for them. I've even received emails saying thanks for the fun offer!
