Amazon
We are setting up a storefront on amazon. It's a new idea, hopefully to turnover some product that isn't moving too well, and pull in a different crowd.
I find their posting interface a little difficult to use. You can export your products from your shopping cart and import them into Amazon...hypothetically. I haven't been able to get this to happen for me yet. The other problem I have is that I'd like to sell apparel and jewelry but am unable to post in those categories, as well as a few others.
I like that I'm able to have my own storefront, that's cool. But the thing that bothers me is that since you have to put yourself in a category on amazon, that seems to hinder it's abitliy to locate the product effectively when people search for it. For example, I am forced to list my red hat in "Everything else" and because of this when you enter "red hats", my product is no where to be found. Even though I have very carefully chosen my keywords and written the listing the the best of my "Search Engine Optimization Diva" ability. This makes me insane! Why is this so antiquated? THEN, you have to go in and in a separate are suggest what other searches should yield this product. Are they kidding? Maybe as time passes and the products are viewed, this may remedy itself. In the meantime, it's foolish.
I don't know honestly is there's a benefit to basically running a fully functioning site, and then posting a smaller version on Amazon. I can only hope it's a good move. It's somewhat easy to work through, and the cost to do it isn't significant. You don't pay to list, only when you sell, if you pay a monthly fee and do their Pro Merchant program. So it's clearly worth a try.
I also find their tech support a little lacking. I can't figure out how to even put my logo on my storefront. That sort of thing should be very straightforward. I'm sure I'll figure it out, but it's annoying.
