The Good, The Bad, The Ugly: Preface

I’m back from a two-month haitus, armed with new mistakes from which you can learn. My only regret is that they are my own mistakes, and they nearly cost me the business.

I had considered sugar-coating the part about the serious business woes I’ve experienced since the middle of September. After all, I’m supposed to know what I’m doing. I’m supposed to make little mistakes, but mostly tell you about the bigger ones made by my clients and other anonymous folk. I might make myself vulnerable, but who am I if I am not honest and sincere in my offerings to a community I’ve grown to love?

For the past eight weeks I’ve suffered a month-long cold, a trip to New York to close down operations up there, and made discoveries no business owner–or friend, for that matter–would want to endure. In my mind I’ve been to hell and back and in less than 30 days, I domesticated the entire corporation.

Most clients stuck by me, a few needing immediate attention amicably shifted to other developers and a few walked quietly away. But I’m back, in full force, and eager for you to learn from the harsh reality of finding out those you think you know are driving you, and your business, into the ground.

Starting next Wednesday the story begins, and from what my editors say, you won’t want to miss an excerpt. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll second-guess what you’ve been doing while others are responsible for keeping everything intact. You’ll double-check your security measures and billing practices, and you’ll analyze where you’re at, and where you actually need to be.

I’ll see you back here on Nov. 21, when, just a day before Thanksgiving (that’s two days before Black Friday) you’ll start your own task list for checking all points for the good, the bad, and the ugly.
