Community Forum Give-Away
Well, today we sent out an email announcement about our new Community Forum monthly give-away. Our plan is to try and get more people involved in a more constructive manner on our community forums. Since we have so many subscribers that are ecommerce owners and also developers, we think that the community forums are a great place for folks to get answers, meet people, and find the help that they need. So here is how it all goes down.
Starting on July 31st, we will pick a random forum post from the forum each month. I do this by exporting the posts from July from the database and then generating a random number and picking one. We then look up the author to the post and they win a $100 gift certificate to Amazon.com. And that's it. The more you post, the better the chances that one of your posts will be picked and you will win.
Of course, there are the problems. We have been seeing alot of spam posts in our forum from robots and people trying to promote something pretty shamelessly. Not a problem, but all the spam posts will be removed prior to us choosing a winner. Also, in order to cut down on spam, we are requiring that anyone registering for an account on our community forum (which is different than a subscription to the digital content on our website) will need to verify their email address to activate their account. This should cut down on most of the automated spam that hits our forums.
To anyone that is participating in the forums, thank you for your help. And good luck at the first monthly drawing.
Update: As of July 2008, we no longer have a community forum, and therefor this Give-Away is not valid anymore.
