Using Word to Create Web Pages

One of these days I will learn to listen. Since we started talking about a web site for the store over a year ago, my husband has been telling me that I can create web pages in Word. I heard him but I didn't take it literally. It couldn't possibly be that easy.

In planning our web site, I decided I want to have calendar pages showing our class schedules. As a user, I like them so I can instantly see what day of the week a particular date falls. I'm sure others may prefer different methods but I'm sticking with this for now. So where does one find a calendar web page if you've never done this before? The next opportunity I had, I was off to Microsoft.com looking for a template that was already set up for FrontPage. Lazy, I know. I was unable to find one that I liked. Then I heard the little voice in my head.... where had it been hiding all this time?

Still at Microsoft.com, I searched for a calendar to download into Word. There it was! I added the cute little arrows and the words "previous" and "next" near the top and a few hyperlinks later, I have exactly what I was looking for. At this point, I'm still thinking that it can't be this easy. I'm thinking I will probably have to do an "import" or some other convoluted conversion that will surely scramble something. Not at all. I went to the "File" pull down menu and there before my eyes were the words "Save As Web Page"... no way! It worked! And it was easy!

I have all of my calendar pages created through the end of the year with all of the hyperlinks in all the right places.. I think. Until 2:00 am rolls around and my brain says to me... "So, how do you get back to the beginning or the Home page if you are on the October page"? Oh my gosh! I have created the web page nastiness that I despise... a web path with only one way in and one way out. That's not really a web...:-)

So, I still have a little tweaking to do but I think I'm on the right path. I'm hoping this works like the dream it appears to be. In all of my excitement, I share my accomplishment with my husband. You guessed it..... "I told you so". When will I learn???

Back to work. Till next time,

Sandy
