Getting Closer.... Getting Nervous....
Hello all. I'm running a little late with my blog this week. I'm on vacation and my in-laws have been visiting. Honestly, I haven't done a lot on my web site this week and I feel guilty. I set a mental launch date of the end of May and I'm not quite ready yet. You can't get much closer to the end of May than the 31st and I'm still fretting about page titles and optimization. Has anyone else ever experienced publishing fear or is this something new?
Lately I've been working on my navigation buttons. There are lots of things you just don't think about when you are web surfing. How big should those buttons be? Just how much web page real estate do they require? I don't have an official answer on that so I just keep sizing them until they look right.
First I spent an enormous amount of time fretting about the button graphics. I know it's silly but I really want it to look good. I spent most of an afternoon on a weekend creating three buttons.... ridiculous, I know. This past weekend I came to my senses and realized that there must be a better way. I searched for a font to closely match the font used in our logo. Carol had outsourced that a few years ago so I had no idea what font style was used.
I did a web search and found MyFonts.com. There are 392 pages of fonts in the particular font neighborhood I was searching. Somewhere around a hundred pages in, there it was. Patience *is* a virtue... or so they say. Anyway, I knew it had to exist somewhere. I found it. I bought it. I considered it a cheap price to pay for the ease of creating a consistent look without spending all day creating new buttons when we decide we need a new one.
Now my navigation buttons are ready to go and I believe they are an appropriate size. Now I only have to get over the nervousness of launching the web site for public viewing... this includes family too. This is a family business (in-laws no less..:-) ). What if it's not good enough? What if they don't like those buttons..:-). Thanksgiving could be very interesting this year..:-) I hope to move past this mental hurdle while I'm still on vacation and get something out there for the world to look see. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Have a great week. Till next time, Sandy
