Done But Not Published
Whew! My web site is finally "done". I haven't published it yet so you can't run out and take a peek. I know you want to..:-) The definition of "done" in this case means that I have finally grown tired of tweaking it. I think I have all of my links linked, titles titled, tags tagged and it is what it is.
This past weeks work consisted of desparately trying to creat graphics with Paint. Nothing fancy, just some cute little things to dress up here and there. I managed a few basic things but then gave up. I work with AutoCAD almost every day at my other full time job. It does all kinds of stuff. Paint doesn't. It's not paid to. So, since I don't have a decent graphics package nor time to learn one proficiently, I made an executive decision. Our web site will be functional but not cute or fancy, at least for now. I know Carol was counting on a "darling" web site but she will just have to fill the orders and try not to look...:-) In the meantime, if you know of a reasonably priced, fairly user friendly graphics package that might help, please let me know.
Moving on to populating my online store. This is the real reason our site has not been published. I figure folks are going to want more than 10 items to choose from.... just guessing. I saved this for last as I believe it will be a never ending task as we get new merchandise seasonally. I will start adding items at a serious pace next week. I will be attending a retailers yarn market in Indy this weekend. In my spare time, I will be reading up on my favorite new subject, white balance.
I gathered a bunch of yarn balls together last night for a photo shoot. They were all dressed up and looking good. They were posing as I snapped photos. Bad news. The color in my photos was all washed out. The yarn balls all returned to their basket very disappointed. This is not good when you are selling yarn by photo. So, upon further investigation (Google), I found out about white balance. There are some nifty little devices out there for getting it just right. Before I go there I will work with what I have and try to make adjustments with my camera and photo software. I'll let you know how it goes.
For now, I'm preparing my game plan for the show.... cocktails in booth 2059 at 3, wine and cheese, fashion show breakfast on Sunday... dont' tell Carol, she thinks I have the tough job here...:-).
