News From the Trade Show
Hello everyone. I don't have much progress to report this week. I spent the past weekend in Indianapolis at a retail trade show. It was a huge show of yarn and needlepoint. Exciting huh?
I traveled there and attended the show with a fellow yarn shop owner from Missouri. That really made a lot of people look at us sideways. We attended a few classes, enjoyed the beautiful downtown, scouted for new products and networked. We scored big in the free sample department too. Gotta love that!
I took two technique classes and one business class. My travel companion took one business class. It was the one I should have taken. She doesn't have a web site and technically I don't either since mine isn't published but, they talked about the importance of having a blog on your web site. Apparently, our customers dream about the romance of having your own storefront and are, in a way, living vicariously through us. They want to hear more about your daily life as it relates to the business. Carol laughed when I shared this tidbit with her. So, is it spending what seems like every free minute working on paperwork, coaxing the yarn bunnies out from under our displays or cleaning the toilet that they want to hear about? We'll have to work on that one..:-)
For now, I will be working hard to get products in our online catalog and I'm still considering the web site "done". By the way, has anyone out there tested the "upload" option in the GoDaddy Quick Shopping cart? I would love to hear how it went. That would help me tremendously.
This coming weekend I will be traveling to Springfield to take Carol's place in the store so she can attend her son's soccer tournament. There won't be much product loading going on but since I'll be in the store, I'm hoping to have the yarn balls lined up single file for a photo session. This is where I get to test my new knowledge of white balance and other adjustments I found out my camera has. Keep your fingers crossed on that one. Of course, I will have to stay after hours and work late to complete this mission. Our customers will be home enjoying dinner or movie with the family.... hmmm... who's living vicariously through who??? I guess I'll add the blog to my list of things to do.
Till next time, Sandy
