Drop Back and Punt
Trade shows and yarn reps and web sites, OH MY!!! I'm exhaused. Sunday was my first day off in twelve days. Ah the luxury of working for yourself..:-)
I filled in for Carol at the store last Friday and Saturday so she could attend a big soccer tournament with her 15 yr old son. They did well and will be moving on to a bigger league next year.... yippeee.
While Ryan and Carol were in Indy screaming and chasing the little black and white ball around in the heat, I was still trying to get a good color photo of a ball of yarn and manning the shop.
About those darn photos.... I adjusted anything I could, moved around the store trying different locations.... nothing seemed to work very well. I think the web site gods must have been watching out for me though as I had a customer stroll in that works for Bass Pro shop.... taking pictures for their online catalog.... that was strange. I begged for tips from him. He recommended that I go to the art store and get a neutral matte finish paper and make a sweep with it in a chair or such. Then the litle ball of yarn goes in the center and you can shoot from any angle. Since I couldn't close the store to make an art store run, I used the front panel of a sweater Carol is knitting for Ryan. I hope she doesn't mind. It made a good non-reflective neutral background but the color of the yarn in my photos was still ick.
About mid day Saturday I found a spot in the front of the store with a natural light. I put my back to the natural light, using my matte yarn backdrop and I was rockin' and rollin'. I didn't get much done since we close at 4 and I had a three hour drive to get home Saturday night. I was still happy to have made some progress....finally!
So, now it's time to load product into my catalog like there's no tomorow... what fun. I must tell you I have made a consession. I found a way to configure my catalog to use one color card for ordering rather than have a picture of every blasted ball of yarn.... I mean every lovely ball of yan. GoDaddy's advanced builder option allows for lots of options. I'm happy with that. I will use this method, load one product but use a drop down for choosing colors. In time, I would still like to have a color photo of each, but in the interest of time, I will use this method. Ryan needs a summer job and we need to get our order filling process down before the busy fall season.... yea, yea, that's it.
Ok then, by this time next week, you should be able to check the web site out for real... exciting huh? I hope to have it out there by Sunday night but I've learned that there is a GOTCHA hiding in nearly every step so I told Carol Tuesday just in case... it's our little secret.
Till next time,
Sandy
