Narrowing The List
Hello all. It's been a week since I formulated my list and now it's time to vote someone off the show. Thanks so much to Michelle and her honesty.
It seems Miva doesn't play well with others... or at least Quickbooks. Since we use both QB financial software and QB POS in our brick and mortar store, this isn't good. So far I haven't seen any shopping carts that integrate with QB POS so this may be a trick anyway. This is where we track our inventory and maintain our customer list. Our QB financial software only receives a summary of the days activities from QB POS at the end of each day and doesn't track individual items. I have a feeling we will be entering our orders manually into our POS every time we get a web order. Of course, it's taking me so long to get the shopping cart up and running, it's hard to imagine receiving any orders from the web or what that might be like. I think Carol has given up on me and my nephew's summer job filling orders...???? Well, I hope he has lots of friends to drive him places because he won't have any gas money when he gets his drivers license in October. No pressure here.
So, I had a little help with that decision. How is the rest of the list coming along? I took a look at Cart Genie. I watched the demo on line and it scared me. I don't know how on earth I would ever remember all of the things I need to click on and change for every item I entered. It didn't look very intuitive to me. I am not knocking it off the list but I think it's sliding toward the bottom.
I called PDGsoft. I actually spoke to a real person. He was very nice and helpful. He informed me that they integrate with QB as advertised but they are still working on integrating with QB POS. It sounds like it may be a few months. I would like to believe him as it would make my life easier but I'm afraid to buy into a promise. We'll see. They are still floating to the top of my list.
So, what did I learn this week? I learned that we're not in Kansas anymore! I have to grow up and learn how to admin my web store without the aid of a wizard. The few online demos I looked at reminded me of the software geeky stuff I see on my husband's computer screen all the time. PDG's was fairly intuitive, Cart Genie not so intuitive. I guess I'm moving on to a new level in my web site adventure. More to learn. Oh goody! I love an adventure.
Till next time, Sandy
