This last week has been a very interesting one. I began my evaluation of ASPDotNetStorefront Pro. It all started innocently enough. I requested the trial version. They sent it in an email. It only had two main instructions. One.... download, two..... read these instructions. How hard could this be? Well, with a few short courses at the community college and a little more experience, I'm sure I would have sailed right through it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not faulting them for my current lack of knowledge on the subject.

So, why have I continued my pursuit of getting this trial version up and running? Why didn't I just quit and say "I can't do this"? Anyone who knows me well, knows my motto. "Anything you can do, I can do too". There's a cute little tune that kinda goes along with that. So far, this motto has served me well except for the number of somersaults I can do in a row in a pool and riding a motorcycle. Bottom line, it's a challenge and I can't stop myself.

Ok... the download went well and I extracted the files, uploaded them to the host.... next I need to create a database... I lived through that. Ok, now it tells me to "run a query". I opened the database and look for a button or anything that says "run". Nothing anywhere that I could find. How about "query". I found something called "query analyzer"... in fact it's the only thing I see that says anything about a "query"... now what? Before I ask my in-house computer geek, I search the web... I really want to do this on my own..:-) Finally, I give in and asked for help. It was not as intuitive as it seems it should have been but then we have left Kansas and I must acclimate myself to my new environment..:-)

Query run, I'm ready to move on under my own power again... need to locate the "admin" folder on the host and right click on it. I spent a fair amount of time looking for a way to do this before realizing that my hosting service plan won't allow me to.... bummer. I need a new host anyway so I on my lunch hour Monday I got a new host. I went with a host recommended by ASPDotNetStorefront... a company called Empire Data Technologies... I think..:-O

Here I sit in front of my computer. My husband is hosting a "scotch night" with his co-workers so I'm taking this opportunity to attempt this setup again with my new host... fingers and toes crossed. The good news... right now we have a house full of computer geeks.. you see where this is going..:-) I need to go now and forge ahead... before they get too far into the scotch. Really, I won't ask for help but it's a nice safety net. I'll let you know how it goes.

Remember, next week I'm on vacation so there won't be an update unless a computer falls from the Utah sky... weirder things have happened I suppose.

Till next time, Sandy
