In Process

Hello all. Since our last visit, it seems things have been creeping along at a snail's pace. This week I finally took the last step to get our domain transferred and start the process of moving our site to the new host. I did this a few days ago.

The day after, I had a teeny panic attack. It was as if I had forgotten everything I did when I set my web site up the first time with GoDaddy. How does it know when someone types in my domain name that my content now resides on a different server? When the domain transfer is complete, will our site be down until I jump through the right combination of hoops to get it going again? I should have known the answer to these questions but, I didn't. Keep in mind, this is all swirling around in my head with the normal weekly crazy stuff and I've slept a few times since the one time I did this. I know I'll figure it out but now I've got to find a quiet spot to hide so the room will stop spinning. :-)

Part of the transfer process is communicating our new FTP info to PDG Commerce so they can install the shopping cart software on our new host server. I emailed the info to Doug at PDG. In my email I expressed my nervousness with the transfer. The reply amazed me. He kindly tells me not to fret, he needs one more bit of info and to give him a call. Doug took the time to explain how the whacky world of domain and host transfers works. WOW! This isn't even his responsibility!

So, this weekend I will stumble through the steps and see how it goes. I'm confident it will work as described in my scribbly notes from my phone conversation with Doug. If not, I also have my "Easy Set Up Guide" from my new host, and.And if that doesn't get it, I still have those Dummies books as a back up. :-) Wish me luck!

Till next time, Sandy
