Best Laid Plans
Hello all. I know this blog is supposed to be about my adventures with my web site and more specifically, the ecommerce side of it. But, unless you've been hiding under a rock for the last week, you know about the ice storm that slammed the country.
This was supposed to be my big weekend with the shopping cart. I had been in touch with PDG Software and they even sent me a not-yet-for-prime-time video they have in the works. It was great. I previewed it Friday. Everything was a go.
Here come the sayings about "even the best laid plans" and "don't mess with mother nature". They're right. Our electricity went out early early Saturday morning and didn't return until Monday afternoon. Needless to say, there was absolutely NO forward progress made on our shopping cart or anything else computer related.
Here's where I'm supposed to tell you how awful our experience was. I would be lying. We actually enjoyed our weekend without lights. We had plenty of wood, a fireplace, candles, food, and clear roads. We also had a dining room that needed paint, lots of cans of paint and my mother, who also had no electricity and loves to paint. Bingo! We painted by light of day and sat by the fire at night.
We consider ourselves very lucky. Our electricity returned just as the tempurature was falling into the teens. We realize not everyone was so fortunate. In Springfield, where our store is located, my in-laws are still without power and the weather has not been kind to them. They are doing ok but the city is devastated and the cleanup will take months. For whatever reason, our store only lost power on Sunday, so the knitting, weaving, spinning and rug hooking continues. It's good therapy.
So, with mother nature's blessings and the cooperation of the computer gods, I will be working on integrating PDG Commerce with our QBPOS this weekend. I believe I have all the tools and confidence to make this happen. But this weekends plans are different from last weekends. Saturday night there will be a fire in the fireplace and we will make the time to sit by it.
Till next time,
Sandy
