What Is It With the Spam?
Hello all. It has been an extra busy week around here and I'm running a little late with this blog. Sorry. The good news is, we are finally out of winter and our trees can start trying to grow leaves again. The bad news is, the grass is growing faster than I can mow it. Guess what's on my list for this afternoon?
So, what's on my mind this week? SPAM. Not the salty meat-like product that comes in a can but that annoying stuff that fills up my inbox and sucks all the joy out of getting email.
I remember the day when I used to love checking my email. It's always exciting to hear from folks and know what's going on in the world of you customers, friends and loved ones. That was before I was silly enough to put my email address on our web site. It seems my lot in life to learn everything the hard way so why would this be any different?
Enough already?!? When I check my email now I feel like I'm walking down the worst street in the worst neighborhood in the most crime ridden city in the world. It's like being approaced by criminals who blatantly ask for personal information, solicitors of ALL kinds and people who just like to mess with my mind by appearing to be an old friend. What's up with this? Then every now and then, a friendly face appears in the crowd but I've spent so much time deleting the spam that I've lost all the zest I had for talking to an old friend. That's just plain sad.
So, what do I do about it? I haven't done anything yet but I'm going to create a picture or .jpg of my email address and insert that into the text where I so carelessly placed my email address before. I'm really proud of myself for thinking of this on my own before I read it in my HTML text book. It's the little things in life.
Will it work and is that the only way? I don't know if it will immediately stop the spam but I don't think I will get any "new" spam and I'm hopeful that the old stuff will slowly die away... or maybe a little faster than slowly..:-) I know this is not the only way. I've seen web sites that spelled the @ symbol as the word "at" rather than being silly like me and just letting the email address fly as is. What was I thinking? I guess I had bigger fish to fry at the time and I let my guard down. Shame on me.
Well I guess I should go mow now. It's refreshing to know I can go outside into the real world here and not be bombarded by criminals and shisters trying to get the best of me. I'll just have to put up with the birds singing and the flowers blooming and the smell of freshly mowed grass. Bummer..:-)
Till next time,
Sandy
