New Products, New Plan
Hello all. Carol and I attended a trade show in Columbus, OH last week. Trade shows are good for lots of things. We see new product, place orders and one of the most important purposes of our trade show is inspiration. You have to get out an play once in a while and this is a good combination of work and play. Placing orders at the show... work, a little visit to the martini bar after the show..... you get the idea.
So, what's my new plan? Well, I've decided to quit moving backward on entering product and move forward. What does this mean? Since we use Quickbooks POS, we utilize the purchase order feature. I create P.O.'s in the system to let Carol know what's coming, how much it costs, and in the process the item numbers (sku) are entered. When product arrives, Carol vouchers (receives) the product in QBPOS and the inventory is adjusted to show the new arrivals. She can receive product and get it on the shelf quicker.
So how is this important to getting items added to the web site? One of the biggest features of our PDG Commerce is the fact that it integrates with our QBPOS. We can schedule it to sync with QBPOS on a regular schedule or do the sync manually. So far, I sync it once a day manually since we aren't exactly selling tons of stuff on our site yet.
Ok, so once I get the P.O.'s created for orders placed, then sync with our web site, the new product will be sitting out there. It won't show "for sale" on the web site until it has inventory. So when Carol vouchers a new shipment into the system to show inventory receipt, the product will automatically hit the web site...... voila!
Sounds pretty boring, I know, but it's a whole new plan of attack for us and our new product will be on the site as soon as we receive it. In my "spare" time, I'll continue plugging away at some of our other inventory but this will get us on track moving forward.
So, what do three yarn divas do at a martini bar in Columbus? What happens at TNNA stays at TNNA. Sorry, couldn't resist..:-)
Till next time,
Sandy
