Just Starting With A Commercial Furniture Site
This is my first post and website . . .
This is my first post. I'm new to ecommerce and online commerce with our new website. After reading "Errors Made By eCommerce Owners" I am not sure what to think about tech side of things.
Most of what I am reading is about search engine optimization and working with buyers you never know. It's an adjustment for me.
Commercial furniture sales has been very personal in the past and I would like to bridge the market between face-to-face and click-and-buy.
After working with many start up companies that had this idea about large purchasing website communities, I still have this concept in my head, but I have not seen anything for commercial furniture. Does any one have any input on how to go about building a buyers networking community for commercial furniture, like the social networking sites?

Try to take one step at a time, before you put your time into solving all the problems, take a step back and find the requirements, the technical solution will then be easier find.
Find out solid facts on : can you find people to sell furniture? what type of people would buy furniture from the site ? do the products people sell match those products people want to buy ? where are they located ? do people buy furniture online?, if yes why (exploit that), if no why not - can you fix it ? who are the big online furnture sellers and why do they succeed -look carefully at the business model it will work for a reason..
how are the logistics going to work around delivery? can you deliver to the people who are likely to order ? how is returns policy going to work ?
Once you have answered these you have most of your requirements, now you need to go fishing for a system that can service them, Checkout, joomla, dotnetnuke, they are a good start and have some social networking modules and shopping modules.
Good luck!
