eBay Makes a Bold Move: 35 Cents For 30 Days
Fixed Price Listings: 35 Cents = 30 Days
This is awesome news for many eBay sellers including myself!
If you’re not selling on eBay yet, now is the time to take advantage of this change taking place.
With the holidays around the corner, eBay is making this “Bold Move” to continue with keeping eBay as the most competitive marketplace on the net.
Best part, this is NOT a promotion. It is not a temporary thing. eBay is allowing us to list items for the duration of 30 days and pay a listing fee of only 35 cents! WOW!
The price change will go into effect on September 16, 2008. This drastically reduced fee is for buy it now, fixed price listings. eBay motors is excluded from this offer.
35 cent insertion fee for 30 days: Any start price or item quantity. They are also offering reduced final value fees (closing fees) for some of the categories, including:
This will help make our up-front listing costs much lower, which means our profit margins will be much higher. Especially higher for those items listed in the categories with reduced final value fees! We will be gaining more exposure at a lower price!
This is exciting news to me as a long term eBay seller.
If you’re not an eBay member yet, now is the time to get signed up. It’s free to join.
- Sellers: Prepare for holiday listing.
- Buyers: Prepare for the most ultimate holiday sales available on eBay.
The eBay shelves will be fully stocked with fantastic offers. This is a win-win situation for buyers and sellers. Buyers will be able to find more great deals while sellers will be able to increase that profit margin!
Bookmark this blog because I have more great news to share about changes at eBay. Stay tuned!

Hi, so does this mean that i could take some of the items from my store and list them at a fixed price and it would only cost me .35 That would be cool...
LilSprout says:
I must have read a different announcement because it is temporary... they need more business for the holidays.
"Starting September 16, we are lowering the listing fee for all items sold via the fixed price format to only 35 cents, and a special rate of only 5 cents through the END OF THE YEAR for Buy It Now™ fixed price listings".
And once again, your exposure on ebay DEPENDS on your selling activity. Big business PUSHING OUT the small sellers and stay-at-home moms that MADE ebay.
Good luck with that!

Hello Creed and Welcome to PEC! Yes you can move them into fixed price from your eBay store and get MORE exposure. Don't forget to include a link back to your eBay store to promote the other items in your store. Move a few out and play it by ear! Keep me posted! Danna

please read this:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/biztech/08/20/ebay.fees.ap/index.html
there is some very interesting info on this site.
starting Sept. 16, it will let U.S. sellers pay 35 cents to list an unlimited number of identical items at a set price, for a month at a time.
Beginning in the U.S. in mid-October, users will have to pay by credit card, PayPal or the credit card processing service ProPay. No more cash, checks or money orders
just a couple of new info on the link

Thanks for the info, Danna. I'll be happy to see it, no matter how long it lasts!

Thanks for sharing that link. I did read that AP release this AM when it went out over the wire.
And, LilSprout, best thing for you to understand better is to view the listings fee page available at eBay:

Small sellers are not being pushed out. May have to market a bit more to get traffic to your eBay store but the time is now to take advantage by putting items into CORE and then directing them to your eBay store.
Cinderhilltraders says:
Seems like only a year ago the rate increase was intended to "shift the mix" of products back to the core auction offerings and away from the fixed price and store offerings..... Hmmmm but wait, that was during the previous management, wasn't it???? What do they really want at eBay?
lilsis1963 says:
I am a buyer on ebay who pays w/a m.o. I guess I will not be able to buy like so many others as I REFUSE to put my banking info on-line.
LilSprout says:
I can read the fee structure just fine thank you. Everything at ebay is temporary and everything can change on you at the drop of a hat. And yes, small sellers are being pushed out because...
Fixed Price—your listing's recent sales now factored into Best Match search results. Now, your listings that produce repeat sales can get a boost in its search exposure. "Time ending soonest" is no longer a factor for Fixed Price.
So the more sales you have, the better your exposure. Admit it or not, that's pushing small sellers out because their couple of items will be seen even less amongst the sellers who list and sell thousands a month.
But my favorite is that DSR of 4.3 or you're out. I get dinged on shipping for items that were digital delivery. Say "hello blackmail!" and "Bye bye business".
Wonder what ebay's DSR would be if all it's customers (the sellers) rated them?
moor213 says:
has anybody noticed that the final value fees ($$$) have almost tripled in less than a year!
Danna Crawford says:
Hi Moor and I have also noticed the price of gas has too but I've not stopped buying it!
I will soon be blogging about the DSR's so check back as I'm sure this will be a HOT topic:-)
stingwall says:
What this article fails to mention is the final value fees go up from 8.5% to 12% for under $50. Once again eBay is pulling a wolf in sheep's clothing by trying to make it look like they are saving us money when in fact it will cost more. I figured my monthly eBay invoice will be going up about $900 a month more now, just like February when they pulled the same thing.
stingwall says:
That's a pretty stupid rebuttal about the price of gas going up but not stopping your purchase of it. Talk about apples and oranges.

Let's face facts. Ebay owns Paypal - they do not make money on cash, money orders or checks. They make tons on Paypal fees. Also they make more money on the bigger sellers of electronics etc. than on us smaller sellers. Not only will they go paperless but now us sellers "HAVE" to quote a shipping price at listing time. How do I know where the item will finally be shipped too? USPS, DHL, UPS etc all require to know destination - box size and weight prior to giving a price quote. So I either have to over-estimate (which can now get you suspended for "Overcharging") or I loose more money by shipping for less than it cost. Plus I will now have to start living with packed boxes, instead of beautiful antiques, in the meantime. As far as the DSR's go. If your below 4.3 your out! I had 100% feedback until 1 (crazy) customer complained about a shipping charge of $5 (which I refunded $1.50) my 100% dropped to 4.5. This buyer (if you checked his feedback left for others) always complained about anything and never left good feedback (chronic). Ok so a few like that and I have to give up years of selling? Let's face it. Ebay wants all the big sellers (electronics etc) for more profit. Us little guys bite it again! DOES ANYONE REMEMBER WHAT EBAY ORIGINATED AS? And yes Donna - I have quit buying a lot of gas - gave up my Pickup and sit at home trying to figure out how to make a living anymore!

Hi, Dana! Since I closed my ebay store due to high fees, I hope this 30 day listing will work better for me. I am excited about it and hopefully my sales will improve! http://myheavenlydeals.com

Today is the launch day! Happy listing and selling!
cabz says:
Wow. Danna, it amazes me that you would compare gas prices to eBay fees. The only thing they have in common is that they've both gone up dramatically in the past year. Yet you're dismissing that fact because 'Woweeee, 35 cents for 30 days!'.
The reality of the situation is that eBay does not enjoy the same market conditions as gas (ie: extremely inelastic demand), and as they continue to raise fees and make their conditions more restrictive they are losing sellers (especially smaller sellers). No matter how they spin it, they're continuing down a path of substantial fee increases and listing changes that rank small sellers lower.
If people can and are finding ways to get by using less gasoline these days, they certainly can and will find a way to get by without eBay.
Dean Iodice says:
I think that's a great thing, it will open up more opportunities for the little guy, the fees on ebay are talked about so much, but it all reality they are still very affordable if you are selling a lot or every now and then. One thing to consider with ebay fees, if you match the traffic that ebay gets to the amount of money you spend on fees you'll see right away that it's a bargain. It would cost a small shop several thousands or dollars per month to get the tools and traffic that ebay has.

Some of your commenters are missing the whole point, or maybe the 30 day listing doesn't work for them.
BUT it works for me, being as I sell multiple items and it seems if I list a 7 days versus 30 days, the fees I'd pay don't change.
And I know not everyone will become a power seller, but if you do, you get discounts on your FVF. Currently I'll get 15% off my FVF.
Also, I look at it this way. When I did my 7 day listings, they would end with some quanitity left. I'd have to relist and then pay close to $4.60 for my multiple listing with fixed price. Times that by 4 weeks, and that $18.40. So in the past versus current fees, Ebay gets $5.00 more of my money then before. But then I don't have the headace to relist every 7 days. But again, while this doesn't work for some, it will still work for others.
I also understand your reference to gas and actually thought it was quite humorous, but not everyone has a sense of humor. Some people took it quite literal, when you were figuratively speaking.
Yeah the price has gone up, you still need it, you buy it. Doesn't mean you drive quite as much as usual, but you still need it, so hence you buy it.
With Ebay, you still want to make money, so you still continue to sell. Can't say I'd see someone scaling back their auctions for the fees, maybe changing up what they sell or the price structure or maybe trying to make sure you have multiples.
But what has me confused, is what is the point of having a store now if the price structure is pretty much the same for fees, but you pay to have a store? I guess I'll bypass on having the store, being as the only draw on that for me, was having the 30 day listings.
