Increasing Sales With Videos

comScore recently stated that videos on ecommerce sites have gone up by 40% in a single year. Well it is no wonder! Creating videos for your products can and will help you to increase sales and reduce cart abandonment. Internet Retailer found that adding video was the #1 site feature online retailers planned "to do" this year. Let me show you why.

Shoeline added 100 videos to their store and increased conversion rates on those products by 40%. PetsUnited saw a 50% increase in conversion rates after adding video to their products.

Yesterday Practical Ecommerce posted an interview with Lars Hundley, President of Clean Air Gardening. One of things he mentioned during his interview was using video to increase sales.

“We shoot a lot of our own product videos and some lawn and gardening informational videos, and we put them on YouTube. Those videos get thousands of aggregate views, and they do help generate sales. We embed these videos directly into our product pages so that people can watch a video when they are trying to decide if they want to buy something.”

So now that I have convinced you that you need videos on your website to increase sales, how do you get started?

  1. Start with your hottest selling products.

  2. Remember that your video does not have to be perfect. Customers want to purchase products from people they like and trust. Being you and being real is more important than having Hollywood quality videos.

  3. Set realistic goals that you can accomplish. You do not have to create 1,000 videos tomorrow. If you are creating these videos on your own, then make a goal to create 2-3 videos per week. If you are super busy, then make a goal to create 1 video per week.

  4. When trying to figure out what to say about the product, think of the following: Who, What, When, Why, Where, and How
