Shoppers Confident in Google Ranks
I had a call from a customer today looking for a product. During our conversation she told me that she wanted to buy from us because we were on the 1st page of Google and she said “if Google trusts you enough to put your site on the 1st page, then you must be a good company”.
This got me thinking. I look at Google from an SEO point of view. Of course my customers have no idea what SEO is, but to see this from their point of view was very interesting. We know that ranking well in Google is good because potential customers can actually find you, but I never thought customers would have more faith in you because of that good placement. I guess it makes sense, it is just something that never occurred to me.
All I can say is thanks GOOGLE! I guess I better get back to work on that SEO!

Reminds me of that line in Death of a Salesman, where Willy and Linda are talking about spending some of their last few dollars on fixing the refrigerator. Willy is worried that the machine isn't any good. Linda says "They got the biggest ads of any of them!". Kara's experience, which I'm sure is true, is just a 2009 version of that thinking.

And along the same lines, shoppers are not confident in the sponsored/paid ads as much as the organic listings. Anyone can throw money at pay per click and appear on there! Linda with a brain would see that bigger isn't necessarily better! If you are there organically, you must be relevant. Yes back to work tirelessly on SEO!
