Corporate News in 140 Characters or Less: eBay Inc. Tweets

Twitter is the hottest social spot on the net. It is also the perfect place for major corporations, like eBay Inc. to publicly voice the corporate news and reach out to customers from behind the scenes.

Breaking all the rules from the round table discussions, twitter offers customer service in 140 characters.

Businesses answering tweets, retweeting the news and establishing hashtags is the ideal way to inform the public of what’s going on behind the scenes.

Employees don’t need to hang out at the water cooler anymore as long as they have a twitter account. Online socializing for staff, sharing personal tidbits including a twitpic photo of what they had for lunch by showing off their favorite place to eat.

The erotic copy machine scans are a thing of the past with cell phone cameras capturing live moments and sending it to twitter within minutes. Yfrog is a very popular choice.

Business meeting notes are being tweeted all across the twitter wires. At eBay, the monthly Town Hall meetings are tweeted as well as the stockholder meetings and financial reports.

eBay fans far and wide can now follow the tweets from the eBay empire: Follow @eBay

The founding father of eBay himself can be found tweeting with the best: @Pierre Omidyar his tweets are quite fascinating too!

I would also like to point out that the eBay Affiliate program (EPN) does not allow members to use affiliate links on twitter. If you click a link from someone promoting an eBay item and you receive an error message like: Warning - this site has been flagged and may contain unsolicited content. You will then know it was not directly from eBay but from someone trying to promote an eBay item using the EPN link which is not allowed.

eBay remains the leader in the eCommerce marketplace. EBay Corporation continues to rise to great levels of social marketing. All of the employees behind the tweets do a fantastic job networking, socializing and promoting the company.

Businesses around the world can learn a great deal by observing the methods eBay is using.
