Free Education and Networking (and I didn't even leave the house)

I apologize I haven’t been blogging a lot here on Practical Ecommerce. Our busy season has begun and of course I am in the never ending quest to keep up with the business, my kids, the house etc. etc.

I wanted to blog about something that I experienced this weekend. I know many of us are work at home Moms or work at home Dads. I also know we all feel alone in our quest to run our business and balance our families. Many of our peers think we have it “easy”, and that because we are home we have the time to clean house, get the laundry done and of course prepare a healthy homemade meal each night. How many of you are laughing right now? If you are like me the laundry is piled on the floor screaming for attention (I swear its alive and growing as we speak). Dinner will probably be a frozen lasagna and maybe a salad if I’m lucky (IF my bagged salad is still edible). Okay, let’s face it we may be ordering pizza. Let’s not even talk about the attention my house needs. As the saying goes if you want to see me come on over, if you want to see the house, make an appointment.

Anyway, I spent my weekend attending the New Life Event hosted by Shawna Fennell with 1Choice4YourStore.com. This educational weekend was like nothing I’ve ever experienced. First of all it was free (yes free). During the event I realized (through Twitter) that I am NOT alone in this. There are many of us out there. I would see someone tweet that they had to run and switch the laundry, or get the kids a snack. Others mentioned their kids were with them through the entire event, I know mine were. I was able to attend 30 hours of webinars that taught me how to grow my business, I learned about so many tools that will help me accomplish my goals and so much more all from the comforts of my home. Last summer I spent over $3000 to attend a 3 day conference. I had to get my husband and kids prepared for me to be gone for 3 days. I had to set up day care for the kids. It was a nightmare. I missed them terribly, they missed me and I spent way too much money. Yes I learned a lot BUT this past weekend I learned TONS and I was able to stay home AND I didn’t spend a dime!

Another bonus was that I was able to meet and network with other ecommerce business owners and moms/dads that are going through the same experiences that I am. I loved seeing posts from others that are struggling to find the balance between work and home. Realizing that we are not alone is a big step in helping us grow. Being able to connect and network with others that understand our daily life really does help us. I know the New Life Event is over, but you can still catch the rebroadcast of some of the workshops. It’s worth every second!
