Between a rock and a hard place
I apologize for dropping out of touch for a bit. We've been in a very hard spot. We've been consulting with our lawyer and considering our options with Aplus.net. I REALLY didn't want to have to move to that step. But what am I going to do when I can't get my server to stay up and reliable? My website was down last weekend! And has been intermittently since my last blog. What am I supposed to do when Lee Ann and I are paying our business bills out of our households because my website won't load? How do I pay my bills or even afford to move my website?
I know if I was reading this blog on a regular basis I’d say ‘pull the site already!’ If I was on the outside of this looking in it’s so clear what needs to happen. So I'm going to try to move the site. And hope I can find a provider who will work with me and put us on a payment plan that we can afford. I've had good suggestions in previous blogs on service providers. I'll start there.
I think the most infuriating thing with Aplus is that even though they are very responsive to get our site back up when I call, they will never acknowledge that it happens. I get no notification that they've ‘fixed’ anything. I call or email my contact person that it's down. I get an email back within 24 hours saying that it seems to be working fine. Why is that? huh? Because they fixed it maybe and didn’t want to actually put that in writing because that would be admitting fault? I also have issues with pictures loading on my miva pages for some people, but not for others. That’s just ridiculous!
So I've officially had enough of Aplus.net. I can't be the only customer of theirs who is dealing with this. I have never had such a hard time with them. We had years of wonderful service and now I'm left with a useless mailing list and a site that goes down without notice, and usually after I've just sent out a direct mail campaign.
They've destroyed my mailing list. A person will only try to shop a site unsuccesfully once or twice. And if you click in off of a direct mail email campaign, and the site page doesn't load you have no confidence in that site anymore. It's unreliable and not safe to shop.
I was told by a number of our loyal customers that the rumor is that we've gone out of business! Well that's news to me! I have really dragged my feet on this wanting them to fix it once and for all. But that's just not happening.
So we move on. Wish us luck. I'll report back on what happens and how it impacted us financially. It’s humiliating to say that. Our business used to be so rewarding, but it’s so depressing now. So hopefully this move starts us anew. I’m looking forward to blogging about more positive things in the nearest future. I can’t feel sick like this any longer. It’s always empowering to pull yourself out of a mess. I am really looking forward to that kind of energy flowing into the business instead of the alternative.
