Playing the E-Commerce Game
I remember when we were just getting started online. It was still early in the game and we didn’t have too many competitors. I remember the thrill of seeing a page I created show up in Google search results. It seemed so easy back then. I felt like we had joined a race and we could keep up, heck even win if we just kept forging ahead.
Like anything in life there are ups and downs and I have definitely seen both in our business. The growth we saw in our first few years was beyond anything I ever imagined. But now with all the algorithm changes, comparison shopping engine requirements, social networking sites, m-commerce and now t-commerce it can be hard to keep up. Some days I feel there are so many forks in the road we can’t seem to find our way through the maze. Now instead of forging ahead we seem to be stuck trying to sort all of this out. The e-commerce game changes so quickly you have to constantly be on your toes. Before you know it, your #1 search ranking is #4 and you are then racing to get your top spot back. It can be exhausting that’s for sure.
I have seen so much change in e-commerce over the years and lately it seems to be changing even faster. We are always up for a challenge and I’ve realized I am going to have to tackle each obstacle one at a time. Luckily there are some great free webinars out there, and of course great vendors that can help us through the maze.
I’m curious if many other small e-commerce stores are feeling the same as we are.
As a small based israeli sports provider its an endless game indeed, i can agree puting up an e-commerce website nowadays is much harder then a few years back when there was almost no competition in every type of market on the net, the hardest thing is keeping a web programmer, designer and SEO workers if you are a small time biz, luckly i know all thet myself wich relifes me from huge expanses, most biz invest on physical store yet they dont realize the huge potential in sales online, a whole new market can be opened up, any way my biggest problem of all is selling running shoes online, thats an "ouch" obstacle for me.
I know what you mean about how fast things are changing. I feel like I spend more time reading & learning than working on my website! You mentioned the growth in the early years. Has the economy slowed you down any? Even with good search position I've found this summer to be very slow.

I think the economy has finally caught up to us. We are seeing a small rebound which I hope is a good sign. I guess the positive of being a little slower is that I now have extra time to try and figure out all these changes in e-commerce. :)
Isn't the constant change part of what excites and challenges us? I love that I'm always learning in ecommerce!
