|
|
| I just finished taking a class on SEO and I run (or am involved in) a few e-commerce sites. I am running into problems with limitations with various hosting companies and/or shopping carts. For instance, I have a Yahoo store that was built with their Editor which they don't allow me to download the files into Dreamweaver or the like. Then, I have another store with another hosting company (it will go unnamed) that doesn't allow me to use anything other than Paypal's standard shopping cart. I looked into osCommerce shopping cart because I had heard good things, but theirs is built with PHP pages so it is not SEO friendly for product detail pages. So in summary, I am looking for a hosting company and/or shopping cart that will allow me to build my site in Dreamweaver, so I have flexibility with the code and then also a shopping cart that will allow me to upload products into a database and allow me to name the URLs associated with it. Any suggestions? I've already done a lot of research and I'm getting exhausted! |

| CubeCart, although in php it's CSS and XHTML compliant and there is an excellent SEO mod that generates nice friendly URLs! |

Can you post a link to that SEO mod? I have been experimenting with CubeCart since reading about it here, and so far I am impressed.
One thing I ran into that might help people is during the update to 3.0.12 there was a programming error I kept getting an SQL error about bad SQL syntax near "ENGINE=MyISAM".
The solution is to dig into the install folder and search for that string. You then need to replace it with "TYPE=MyISAM". I'm not sure if this error is something that is specific to the version of MySQL that I am running, but it fixed the problem.
If anyone else knows of any great CubeCart mods, please post links here. I am surprised by how hard it is find mods for CubeCart, unless I have completely missed an index or directory of mods. |

Brian,
Yes, I think there have been a few problems with 3.0.12 - I'm still working off 3.0.10.
This is a link to the SEO mod for CubeCart. The guy updates it everytime a new version of CubeCart is released. It's free or $8 to remove the copyright info that appears at the bottom.
As for mods for CubeCart head over to CubeCart.org which is the home of all mods and skins for CubeCart. I can provide you with a list of the specific CubeCart Mod Stores but for information a lot are available at cc3.biz and CubeCart-Mods.
Any more questions please let me know.

We do a lot of work with www.clickspace.com - they let us build editable webpages and provide ecommerce. They're also pretty seo friendly with meta tags, content editing and the like. They also give us clicktracks pro for cheap |

| Thanks for all the responses so far. It's funny because the night after I posted this, I got an email from Practical E-Commerce about a podcast with the owner of www.shopping-cart-reviews.com and that has been a savior! I came across a site www.ecommercetemplates.com and it's looking like it has what I need and I'll have just about full control (I don't have to use the templates). |

Or, post them in the CubeCart topic started within the SHOOPING CART section on the forum - i.e., one-stop-shopping for eveything CubeCart. |

You may also want to at least take a peek at Shopify.com. They have a unique way of doing things where they host the site, and you only pay a percentage of sales. This covers hosting and future development and support for your store.
Not only that, but from the little that I have played with it (this system REALLY piqued my curiousity) it offers plenty of flexibility with regard to layout and design, since it is all CSS based. I was able to customize my template very easily (even dynamic components) and based on the markup that I saw there should be no limit to the possibilities using CSS.
The other thing that I was really impressed with is the back-end functionality. It is definitely limited, although after a little while I realized that it is almost perfectly limited. For someone starting out, I think that this is an option at least worth checking out. |

| You should take a look at Zen Cart (http://www.zencart.com). It is based on osCommerce but it has been highly refined for ease of administration and set up. It's built on an XHTML template system that is rather easy to work with. Community support is top notch and there are hundreds of add on including a very sophisticated SEO URLs module that works very well. You do have to have MOD_rewrite abilities on your server, but any reputable hosting company can accommodate that. |

There is little known cart software called softslate commerce.
https://www.softslate.com
It's one of most flexible cart with in-built SEO friendly URLs and customization, it all depends upon your imaginations.
Another best thing is, it based on java/jsp technologies. |
