I read the article on bullish on bloggin.
Yet I was wonder if someone could point me into this unknown territory.
When Bloggin first came out, I really didn't pay attention to it. Yet with the nature of search engines today. I need to generate more traffic some how and I feel this will be helpful.
Any suggestions, would be helpful on where to start. |

Do any of your competitors blog? If so then check them out.
One of the most successful company blogs I can think of is from 37Signals.com. It is becoming more and more popular but with the relevant content, etc.
Have you ever blogged before? There are various options when it comes to software. Two options are Movabletype and Wordpress both of which you install on your server.
I have run various blogs myself in the past and I have also designed sites for others using a blog software and adapting it to a CMS based system. |

every business should be blogging.. if you have the time..
70%+ blogs are spam.. and the search engines are now starting to take those backlinks into consideration.. so unless your post is not related to your site/product, it is pointless.. and don't spam every widget blog with a link to your site.. it works best if you create your own blog and link back to other blogs that have content related to yours (most such as worldpress will link back to you as well)
my 2 cents |

Think also to join high ranked forums that are related to your site content.
Join there and be an active member. Use your site link in the signature of your profile.
This also helps for pagerank. |

FYI, my customers (who are die hard distance runners), often get furious when I'm putting my 2 cents worth into a message board discussion. And I'm not posting spam garbage - it's genuine recommendations and not always even involving my product. I use the message boards to bounce ideas off customers and to discover what's going on in the industry.
But...the search engines love the message board posts and it helps tremendously with site traffic.
In the end, it's a toss up. You may lose a few people wihile also gaining some. Just be careful that you identify yourself properly and don't mislead. |

Blogging isn't for everyone and every business. However, if you blog regularly offering valuable information it will be a success. The important thing to understand is that if you use a blog strictly as a sales tool it won't work.
To get started I recommend:
http://wordpress.org/ or http://blogspot.com
WordPress is better in my opinion, because you can use many plug-ins which will enhance the user experience and your ability to track traffic and statistics. More on plug-ins here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins
The basics to blogging are simple, but it can also become complex. Start with the basics until you feel comfortable. Post regularly and reply to your comments. You'll begin to see some Google juice in no time.
Cheers,
Dave Delaney
