|
|
I was browsing through various "up for bid" projects at a particular freelance website and I noticed a lot of requests for "a clone of 'x' site."
I know what "clone" means ... but in terms of website design, does this mean that these people are asking for exact copies of another website? I mean, I'm quite sure their not so stupid that they won't change a logo or some content - but for the most part, isn't this somewhat unethical?
Is this something that is common these days ?

I think it is more on the functionality or about replicating the way something works i.e. a Clone of MySpace for Sports teams.
So they want all the functionality, but to place it in a new context. |

There is software that can download the whole website and lay it on a disk the same way it resides on the webserver. A cloner can use that and have something like draft project, which he can further develop, slightly redesign etc.
It ain't good. It's like a theft IMHO. |

| I would stay away from cloning as much as possible. |
