Sales & Use Tax

Does anyone have any idea what the timeline is before we're stuck charging tax to all customers rather than just from the state your business is in?

My company has sales reps in other states and so we must charge sales tax in those states. Currently this is limited to California but I have a feeling that is because we were audited a few years back (before my time fortunately) and so we KNOW we have to get tax for CA.

The accountant was in a couple of weeks ago and said Washington State would soon require sales tax; we don't even have a rep in WA.

It's tough dealing with everything that goes into an eCommerce site but then playing the role of tax lawyer too; sheesh!

My experience with CA has shown me the, just under, 1700 tax jurisdictions that seem to cross county lines as well as postal codes. How can you be accurate? How can they expect you to be with this being the only resource available (that I can find)?
