Firstly I am new to your magazine, site and forums but have been very impressed with your content, to the extent I just signed up for a 2 year subscription. Thank you.
One area which has been intriguing me, given the staturated nature of the web today, is how to get yourself noticed. SEO is obviously something which is required but most of the articles in this forum are SEO for web sites.
It seems there are more and more people using Blogs today as web site substitutes, and even the SEO Report card seems to focus on Blog sites. So my questions are ;
* Are there any substantial differences in an SEO checklist between a web site and Blog and ...
* Do you have a checklist available that one could use in the planning phase of their about to be created Blog
Thanks, and keep up the good work.
Regards

To start with, the short answer to your question is "no". However, the long answer is probably more fun.
First off, a blog is a web site. The word "blog" is really just an empty word that describes a website that has frequent posts on it organized by date and subject matter. Most people out there use some sort of blog software, however, to make this task easier. Essentially blog software, such as WordPress, handles the programming and such so that you don't have to actually hire someone to program a website for you. At the most basic level, blog software is really content management software.
Secondly, there are quite a few things that can be done. You first want to look at all the same angles that you would look at for a normal website. However, due to blog search engines like Technorati, there are additional things that need to be looked at for blogs, given the extra tools available. These are things like tags and such, as well as how the blog software that you use presents HTML code. Just because you are using a content management system doesn't mean that it outputs good SEO'ed code.
Stephan Spencer has written about some blog SEO stuff, and I am sure that there is more to come. I'd be interested to hear what others have to say on this subject as well. |

Stephan Spencer does a great job of outlining some things to look for when making your blog search engine friendly. |
