Congratulations! I hope this is the case as I noticed the moderator tag under your name. You contribute a lot, so I think this recognition is awesome.
Ok, so the question is how did you become one? Is it something you signed up for or given to you based on the number of posts you have (I've seen other forums do this).
Inquiring minds want to know. |

Since I check into the site several times a day, Brian asked me to assist with the "clean-up" of spam that has been plaguing the SEO Forum over the past couple of months.
I am only too happy to help out in this regard.
Heck, over the weekend alone I deleted about 4 or 5 obvious spam posts.
(They're not hard to spot).
The sad thing is, they're now starting to seep into other sections. I just saw one today from some "new member" named "mikecar" who is pedling his DELETED site.
Anyway ... I am not a "moderator" in the true sense of the title - just helping Brian "clean the gutters" (so to speak). Someday, perhaps ... as I do very much enjoy both learning and helping here when I can.

Howdy,
I thought I would put in a quick post here that we are in the process of hammering out how to deal with our forum. We have tossed around the idea of getting some moderators for the forum, although we just haven't really nailed it down yet.
However, we will be getting moderators for the forum to help us to reply quickly to posts and ensure that our visitors can really on useful information and reliable responses. I'm sure you can imagine that we are very busy and the forum sometimes suffers because of it.
If anyone is intersted in moderating a few topics on the boards, please feel free to PM me and let me know. Ideally we would find a few people who would like to monitor topics that they are familiar with and find interesting. In addition, as our forum grows so does our spam, so there would be the responsibility of ripping off those posts when you see them.
I'll know more as we develop this idea, but I figured it doesn't hurt to gauge interest now. Thanks for any help that we can get.

I tell ya, over the last couple of weeks, the automated SpamJockeys have been out in force.
I think I have cleared out at least two dozen obvious spam postings in just the past 14 days.
What's even more sad are the (non)clever little ways they try to pass as something (or someone) legitimate.
Anyway, just wanted to let y'all know that I'm still "on the job" in helping Brian to keep this Forum restricted to quality posts and information - as it should be.

Yeah Tom, I wanted to say great job as well. The board is pretty much cleared of Spam rather quickly.
On a side note, Brian have you heard of http://akismet.com . I'm not sure it will work for forums but the guys over at TechCrunch (big time blog) swear by it on their blog. They report that the services stops about 15,000 spams a day. Thought it might be something to check into.

We also use Akismet on our blogs, and it works great. We were getting nearly 100 spam comments a day, and it has been great.
The problem is that it is specific to blogs, targeting comment and trackback spam. If there were something similar for phpBB forum software, I would be on it immediately. Let me know if anyone hears anything. |

Brian, will do. But for the life of me, I can't remember what forum software you use. Can you let me know. Thanks.
P.S. Just added a new site for review in the review my site forum, take a look and let me know what you think when you have a chance.
