You have a good point, John.

For those so inclined, Google does have a feedback form for v5:

Hi Eric,

You have done a great analysis and comparison. I think the bulk of users are not power users and this "upgrade" will not immediately benefit them.

But I don't see Google backtracking on the direction they have gone. Of ...

Thanks for sharing, William. It looks like Yottaa is offering some great info and resources.

[Disclosure - I have nothing to do with Yottaa] :-)

@Lexiconn,

Those are four excellent points.

There are avenues for reporting attacks, but the odds of catching the "bad guy" are low. If you are under attack, you do really want to focus on mitigation and damage control rather t...

Mike, your point is well taken. EV is an absolute in certain industries.

And, it will grow in importance as consumer awareness grows.

But if I was advising a small Ecommerce site owner who was getting started, had a limited budg...

Skilaq,

Although I agree with your basic point, it is easier said than done to start targeting and get top placement with major brands and generic terms with your SEO. My advice:

  1. Don't panic.
  2. Watch your stats clos...

As an update to this article, the Google Analytics team posted some information today on their blog related to Google Instant

They say that some of the "clever" f...

Bing actually has a similar tool - an AJAX -based search interface. It was available over a year ago, but I don't believe it ever went past the experiment stage.

Armando,

Hats off to you, and Practical Ecommerce/Ecommerce Developer, that you took the time to investigate the context of Big Commerce's claims.

Arturas, You bring up a good point. Functionality/Usability testing is critical and, hopefully, is an ongoing process that a site owner is engaged in.

Load testing is a little trickier - particularly in a shared environment, since there...

I am glad you liked the article. Some people get paralyzed because they don't think they can create (or afford) lively holiday graphics to spruce up their site. Even if you can just add text messaging, it is worth it. Putting forth a clear mess...

Hi Lori,

I would say it is never too late to take action.

Massimo had some good suggestions.

Before you take steps, I would make sure that you have some good tracking tools in place. Do you have Google Webmaster Tools an...

Hi Michelle,

It sounds like you have been through the ringer. I hope your new situation works better for you. I am writing an article for Practical Ecommerce about transitioning to a new provider. I assume it will be on the site within...

Frugal1: I concur that a natural evolution of social media success involves using the apps and tools that will afford you maximum efficiency and effectiveness.

But I do think job #1, for a newbie, is developing a strategy around how soc...

Paul,

I couldn't agree with you more. One statement in the article I would like to qualify is about social media being a different type of communication than in-person. An online social-media communicator needs to be comfortable with to...

Thanks, Armando.

The big thing with #6 is preemptive planning. You should really not need to be limited designwise as long as the design team you have in place understands all the issues of usability and marketing. Often that is not the...

Thanks for this information, Armando.

This study is fascinating and your article provides some great actionable steps. The coupon code request at checkout is a great idea, and this can even be creatively turned into a bit of a game.
