Great round-up of holidays sales and figures. We also looked at smaller ecommerce merchants and how they did this past Black Friday / Cyber Monday:

Great list. Don't forget Bizrate, a major player for customer feedback.

Great article Michael. Here are a few key points from my perspective as a web host:

  1. Who you host with matters - This is a big one. If you're at a budget host that packs their servers full of any type of customer; you're risking...

Great article Jill! I love the detailed analysis of pages, likely causes, and suggestions to fix things. This looks to be a great series on SEO and how to deal with the Google change, targeted at ecommerce websites.

If the customer is posting credit card data to your site (even if that post is in "memory" and never stored) via a form, then your site falls within the PCI scope.

The only time it does not is if you use Authorize.net's SIM method where...

Great idea! The host doesn't have to be a major player either. We've helped many of our smaller ecommerce merchants with exposure by featuring them as a site of the month, using them as a case study, or the subject of a blog post. And we're by ...

I'm of course biased as we're a ShopSite hosting partner (although we are constantly evaluating other ecommerce solutions), but I would recommend ShopSite (http://www.shopsite.com/). It's a full featured ecommerce system that would handle your ...

Very nice Armando! I never knew about these shortcuts. Seems I found another reason to keep FireFox around (to compliment Chrome). :) Rob

I agree that PayPal would be the simplest way to go. You can even setup a recurring payment in PayPal to auto bill/charge the customer if they use PayPal to pay.

Or, Try Google Checkout UK, which has no monthly fees, and similar fees to...

Nice "timely" tip Charles. I agree that you do not want your cart expiring too soon, but merchants also have to balance out other factors such as:

  • Carts that are saved for long periods of time often keep the price of the produc...

Kara,

Thanks for sharing the struggles and issues you're business is faced with these days. It's a common problem for many ecommerce merchants, and one we deal with in the hosting industry as well.

It's tough to get your message...

Now we just need an email application / service that will aggregate this information and auto schedule future mailings based on the best time each individual customer opened the email previously. :)

Armando,

Great job on the investigation. Since Interspire chose to mis-quote your business and essentially make it look like you endorsed BigCommerce in the quote, that opens the door.

Marketing is marketing, but when you put qu...

This should be an exciting feed option for merchants, especially with the zero dollar cost attached to it. It will be good to have a large competitor to Google Product Search.

I noticed you also have a webinar next week with a rep. from...

Great article. S&S is literally right down the street from us. I used to work there for a summer when I was in college. I helped them when they first started to get into the web in the mid to late 90's.

Glad to see they are doing we...

Great article! I love the "expose web analytics to customers" section. This is often overlooked, and can be a great way to show people what's hot. It's like your very own social media hype right in your website. :)

As far as measuring ...

For merchants new to Twitter/Facebook, setup an account, then listen and follow other companies you admire. See how they use the medium, how they interact, and learn from their mistakes.

Then, you can start participating actively. I sug...

If you're considering a forum, don't forget to think about these issues:

  1. Do you have the staff on hand to act as moderators?
  2. Are you prepared to deal with spammers and the like?
  3. Research the different forum softw...

Solid tips this month! I personally like "improving site search". If your store has more than a handful of products, make your search prominent, make sure results are relevant, and allow narrowing by category, by price, etc... to help turn brow...

Some great ideas in this article for SMBs. The "Long-tail" suggestion is of particular importance. Also try to narrow down a larger keyword to more exact searches to really fine tune your ads (and exclude irrelevant searchers). Watch out for th...
