Chart of the Week: 18 Million Twits By 2010?

By 2010, more than ten percent of the U.S. adult Internet population, some 18.1 million users, will be on the Twitter micro-blogging platform according to eMarketer.

A leader in monitoring Internet and marketing trends, eMarketer reported that the Twitter community would grow by nearly 50 percent in 2010 after growing some 80 percent from 2008 to 2009.

eMarketer’s report came on the heels of a controversial Nielsen Online blog post that correctly recognized that Twitter was losing nearly 60 percent of its users after just one month, perhaps ensuring that the site would never have the same massive audiences as other social media networks.
