Chart of the Week: Small Businesses Use Social Media to Field Questions, Network

According to new research, more than 260,000 small businesses in North American use social media like Twitter, Facebook, Tangle, LinkedIn, or MySpace to answer customer questions or to network, perhaps in the hope of increasing sales.

The research from Sage Software and AMI-Partners found that some 64 percent of small businesses used social media sites to simply answer questions from customers.

According to eMarketer, a leading Internet marketing research firm, most of these businesses focused their activities on networking sites rather than on microblogging sites like Twitter or Yammer.
