Analytics platforms are essential for merchants to glean insight into what drives their traffic. Google Analytics is the popular choice, but there are many other analytics tools available.

    Thanks for the recommendations Sig, Google Analytics isn’t really keeping up with my business like it used to. Just installed KISSmetrics, lets see how that goes.

    I’m curious if you’ve had a chance to try Inspectlet:

    I’ve been following MouseFlow and Inspectlet closely for our project (SEEL) and found Inspectlet to work far better. Any thoughts on that?

    Thanks for the article. Some of the tools you mentioned above are not exactly Google Analytics replacement. They are more of an addon. For example Moz Analytics is a diagnostic tool that helps with SEO and content marketing. It doesn’t claim to replace Google Analytics in fact it connects to Google Analytics.

    Similar situation with KISSMetrics. To my understanding it connects to data Google Analytics provides but has better visual representation.

    Also I question their data mining methods. Google is really good at a data.

    Hey, all. I just wanted to recommend something I’m working on.

    Here are the main features:
    – Conversion funnels – see where you don’t convert
    – Acqusition analytics – see which traffic sources work
    – Product performance – see conversion rates and metrics per individual product
    – People’s actions – see what people do on your website, click by click.

    Thanks for the overview. I would recommend Kissmetrics. I use it combined with the data of my Live Chat provider, Visitlead. The interesting events gets forwarded automatically to it so it’s great for creating good leads.

    If you have a large volume of exact keywords that you want to run a search on, Google Analytics will only allow you to run 1,000 at one time.

    Traffic Travis has just added the ability to run 10 of these searches for you when you add one set of data:

    So that’s 10,000 exact match keywords in one search. Just in case anyone’s interested. :)

    It’s hard to completely drop Google Analytics if you’re an AdWords advertiser. GA is the only analytics package that has a direct connection to the AdWords database.

    One of the things you can do with GA tracking data is keep a copy of it and analyze it with a different utility. We use Angelfish Software for this:

    Thanks for this article Sig – all your recommendations are fab. I’d suggest that you also mention Countly (honest disclaimer: where I work), an open source web analytics platform which has Javascript crash reporting, user profiles, segmentation, funnels and user flows. It’s possible to slice and dice custom events to get more detailed information about users. In short, I’d say if you want a complete web analytics with SSL encryption, geo tracking, complete API, clickpaths & flows, email stats, country reporting and more, Countly is just another open source alternative.

    You can access source code and documentatio from Github (, or get more information from Countly web page ( There is also paid options, but linking to that would be shameless..

    Clicky is by far the best alternative to Analytics. It’s got quite a load of features, and the UI is very friendly too. I’ve just added my site.

    And the stats are almost quite accurate and resembles to that of Google Analytics. Thumbs up for Clicky!

    Mint looks great. I don’t need too much features for my Analytics data. The deciding factor for me is design and interface.

    Another one that looks great (depending on your preferences) is GoAccess. Found it at the self-hosted alternatives article from rosehosting and tried it out on my server. It really does look great if you like command-line interfaces.

    I’m using Serpstat’s $20/mo plan and Moz tools. The problem with Moz is that they give small margin of error.
