Drop shipping can be a great tool to help diversify your inventory, test market prodcuts and maximize inventory capital, when used correctly.

Here are some keys to using it successfully:

    1. Always test the supplier who drop ships to make sure that their delivery and packaging is up to YOUR company’s standards. The customer delivery experience will reflect on your brand, not the suppliers.

    2. If you sell in a Marketplace (Amazon, eBay) make SURE that the drop shipper will deliver within the marketplace’s required timeframes. If your product is delivered by the drop shipper outside of the required delivery time, this can result in negative feedback on both eBay and Amazon as well as penalties against your seller accounts.

    3. Find out if the drop shipping supplier has a real-time inventory system. If the customer places an order, only for you to discover that the product is not currently/no longer available, you’ll have to cancel the order (not a good reflection on your brand) and on eBay/Amazon your seller account will take a performance hit.

    4. Run the numbers on your margins. Drop shipped products generally have higher costs. Make sure the numbers make sense.

Also, keep in mind that a drop shippers are not a special breed of supplier. They are simply wholesale suppliers who are willing to ship direct to the customer. Don’t forget to ask your existing or new suppliers if they are willing to drop ship to the customer. (Some will/some won’t.)

Finally, do your product research first, THEN use a drop shipping tool as a supplier resource. Selecting a directory, and going through it A-Z is like looking for a needle in a haystack (as well as an exercise in frustration). Figure out what products/categories you’re looking to source, then use the drop shipping tools to look for potential suppliers.

For more tips on product selection and sourcing visit

Finally, do your due diligance and vet your suppliers. If a wholesale supplier claims they have in-season Coach bags, Jimmy Choo shoes and Nikon cameras etc. for 90% off, run the other way.

Always make sure that your supplier is a legitimate, authorized supplier before sourcing any inventory.

I have ran my own online company for 8 years which consists of 6 different websites that operates through Dropshipping products for every sale I receive from my sites. For someone with little start up money, I highly recommend drop shipping for obvious reasons like no stock but also as the risk is low because you are constantly operating within profit.

Just make sure you find a good dropshipping company to use that is both reliable and profitable. Every dropship company I use I have sourced from SALE-H at so I very much recommend people to become a member of that as it caters for every different sort of merchant. Sorry if my comment is coming across like some sort of sales person here but I am just offering some free advice that I find myself recommending to everyone already

I am sorry, I cannot give credibility to any of those sites in your article since you have Doba listed first. Unless they have changed dramatically since 2006, their prices to those who use drop shipping are higher than can be found on a cursory search on the web.

I have tried 6 of the 10 listed, and found 1 is worth using. Doba? I can’t believe you listed that one. Very bad experience with them. Thanks for not listing my favorite. It’s already hard enough to compete against every tom, dick & harry on the web…..

      Hello frank651:

First I am new to this so I hope you could help me a little. You said you found 1 out of the list worth using and I like to ask you which one was it? Thank you for your help.

Great suggestions, I can only add that most smaller wholesalers would be happy to provide drop-shipping services if you can prove you have put in the work with either a decent looking website, an active mailing list or impressed upon them your knowledge of a market they are under-represented in. These sites suggested are really the easy way to get involved in drop shipping, but they do take a really large percentage of the potential profit you are seeking.

Another type of (reverse) drop ship model service that I can think of is Shopatron.

However, they work by connecting brick-and-mortar stores containing inventory of products with nearby customers who purchase products directly from the manufacturer’s websites.

  6. MTUser2012 January 8, 2013 Reply

I too don’t understand why you would list DOBA first. When I sold a lot on eBay, they would present to top-seller groups. It was hard to listen to the pitch because the products were so expensive.

From looking around the on web, I see there a lots of complaints about drop shippers. This article would have been more useful if helped identify the ones with a proven track record.

  7. Das Reviewman April 21, 2013 Reply

This is the worst list, in fact they are all just aggregators.

We provide a REAL WHOLESALE experience and offer the lowest prices to our sellers so they actually make profit.

This is a great list of traditional drop shipping opportunities. On the horizon, because of just in time production and the weaving together of the global logistics and communications structures, there are some new players in the drop ship game. One to keep your eye on is JMWant, they’ve just recently started moving across borders, you can find them here:

Basically, as I read it, they are a sourcing platform–from their site, but also custom–that drop ships globally. Worth a look and a great addition to the known suspects listed above.

After your done making 3-8% and would like to make some real money try a reverse dropshipping model where you import products in from Asia and have someone like Virtual Importer manage and ship them for you. You can make 150-300% instead of a measly 3-8% commission.

Your post caught my attention. Can you tell me more about “reverse dropshipping”? Please enlighten me with more info if you could.

I am extremely unhappy with the products, prices and resources at Dropship Design! I won’t risk my 100% positive feedback on eBay by selling poor quality items. The descriptions and pictures are not of good quality. The prices after shipping and handling fees are more than the items are selling for on eBay. I have requested a refund. If I don’t get it soon – I’ll file a dispute with PayPal. Their website was very misleading!

  11. George Y February 28, 2014 Reply

I used myself and it was what I needed to get started quickly (They seem to be a part of dropshipdesign listed here).

You might need just some general knowledge of e-commerce and we are here to teach you the basics. Before you jump into bed with any dropship company you should do your own due diligence.

I did a lot of reading and one of the best resources was this site and Not every company is right for everyone, that’s why lists like this are helpful. Give tools a test drive, most have free trials.

Nowadays many drop shipping sites are available online and it can result confusing to realize which of all them are reliable.
I’m personally facing this situation and that’s why I stumbled upon with this page. I heard about many of the sites in this list, but the only one that I personally tried is SaleHoo, which presents pretty interesting information.
I think that to succeed in this business the key is provide an excellent customer service, which is directly related with the quality services that your dropshipper can supply.
Then if one can find a reliable supplier, with a fast service, high-quality products and competitive prices it’s very likely that you will make cash.

I work for a supplements manufacturer that drop ships their products. What I’ve learned from a drop ship supplier perspective is that the most important things are the quality of the products and way the company responds to customers. Selling good products goes a long way to avoiding issues down the line. But if there is a problem, and it is inevitable they will occur with all the complexities of technology, and if the company is eager to please the customer, the rest will always work out. We have been dropshipping our products for over 10 years and as long as you are focused on the customers satisfaction at all times, you will be successful. The rest is really just logistics.

As a supplier, we are fully aware of shipping speed requirements, blind and professional packaging, and so on. But more importantly, from the very first time you deal with us, you will notice how hard we work to satisfy. That’s what counts in a supplier. We have been successful because no matter what, we want a satisfied customer at the end. It doesn’t matter who sells our products, only that the customer gets the same consistent satisfaction every time. Find that in your supplier and you are golden. You should get a sense for that pretty quickly when dealing with suppliers. These directories are just the starting point for choosing a supplier. When you pick one, try to get a sense of how they prioritize the customer. Look at their policies and guidelines. That will tell you a lot. What is their return policy? Guarantees? How do they handle lost shipments? Damaged? Focus on these things. Hopefully that helps some. You can check out our own fully detailed drop ship program at — we are very accommodating and love to please.

I have been in the drop ship industry as a web designer and creator of pre-stocked drop ship websites. I got so sick of watching people paying for bunk directories or for access to drop ship lists full of drop shippers that you can find anywhere. It takes a long time to contact drop shippers and search the internet and people would rather pay for a directory access then to do the leg work themselves. So over the last two years I have created a 100% free drop ship directory that requires no sign ups and no money to access. Just completely free drop ship listings. We will be adding over 1700 more drop shipper over the next month to the directory and we are constantly adding more useful info. I would like to have our website listed here or at least this comment posted so we can help small online businesses get started without all of the expense. Thank you for your time.

I like this secret ebay drop shipping tool that was recommended to me from my DSD 2.0 team leader.

It’s called top selling item finder and you could check it out here:

Instead of spending hours a day looking for items to drop ship I only spend minutes a day now. I especially like how it removes all the non selling items and auction items from the search results and will only display the buy now items.

This means I am able to make faster decisions on what I want to dropship on ebay. Time is Money!

I agree with some of the others, DOBA is horrible – most of these directories are either garbage or so overused there is hardly any if any profit margins. You can actually make more money in retail arbitrage dropshipping from online retail stores like Amazon, Target, Academy sports etc. This is what I have been doing for over 7 years and I gross over a million.

Two tools I have found a invaluable resources are Skugrid ( (they also have hydra lister which works really well with it) which allows me to track products to ensure they stay in stock so i am never selling out of stock items.
Their Hydralister automates the listing to ebay which saves a lot of time but costs a little extra.

Then I use Dropship N Paste ( which allows me to copy and paste buyer address with one click. It saves me a lot of time and money.

Those are the only dropship tools I really use. Hope this helps :)
