Google Sites is a portal for creating websites. It offers a gallery of templates, including business and collaboration designs, where you can make a site public or just open to project collaborators. Templates can be customized and now include an automatic mobile rendering feature to create mobile-friendly sites.
With Google Sites’ automatic mobile rendering, when an iOS 3.0+ or Android 2.2+ device visits your site, the width of the site adjusts to the width of the device. Other layout objects adjust as well, such as sidebars. This mobile-friendly feature is part of the Google Sites’ mobile rollout, which also includes new mobile templates, which we addressed earlier in “6 Google Templates to Mobilize Your Business.”
To enable the mobile rendering feature, after you create a site, go to General Setting – More Actions – Manage Site and click “Automatically adjust site for mobile phones.” You can preview desktop and mobile versions of your site by choosing More Actions – Preview As Viewer.
Here are some of the many business templates from Google Sites. Use them to create project sites, eye-catching landing pages, and more. The template gallery is public. So if you create your own stellar template, here are directions to add it to the gallery for others to view and use.
