23 Tools to Test your Ecommerce Site

Does your ecommerce site need a checkup? Testing can help you gauge your site’s performance and your customers’ experience. Best of all, many testing tools are either free or relatively inexpensive.

Here is a list of tools to test your website. There are usability tools to test customer behavior. And there are performance tools to measure a website’s speed, browser compatibility, and search-engine-optimization performance.

Usability Testing

Concept Feedback. Post your website, landing page or mockup. Get expert feedback from design, usability, and strategy professionals. Get free website feedback from the community — review five other projects and then post yours. Price: $99 per expert; community feedback is free.

Google Analytics Content Experiments. Experiments allows you to test how well different versions of your pages work in getting your visitors to accomplish specific goals. ClickHeat. ClickHeat is a visual heat map of clicks on an HTML page, showing hot and cold click zones. ClickHeat is open source and free of charge. Price: Free.

Crazy Egg. Crazy Egg measures where visitors click. It features a heat map for clicks, a scroll map that displays how far down visitors scroll, and a confetti tool to distinguish clicks by referral sources. Price: Plans start at $9/month for 10 active pages.

FiveSecondTest. By finding out what a person recalls about your design in just five seconds you can ensure that your message is being communicated as effectively as possible. Price: Plans start at $20 per month; perform tests to earn tests in the free community plan.

Feedback Army. Start a usability test for your site in two minutes. Submit questions about your site and receive 10 responses from reviewers. Price: $20 for 10 responses.

Silverback. Silverback is a Mac-based usability-testing tool. It allows you to record usability testing sessions, capture screen activity, set tasks, and mark noteworthy moments within a session. Price: $69.95 one-time payment.

UserTesting.com. UserTesting.com provides on-demand usability testing. Create your test with one of the customizable templates. Select participants, specifying demographics for your target audience. Watch videos of participants using your site, receive written answers, and ask follow-up questions. Price: $49 per participant.

Feng-GUI. Feng-GUI provides attention analysis. It simulates human vision during the first five seconds of exposure to your site visuals, and predicts what a real human would be most likely to look at. Price: $25/10 images.

Unbounce. Unbounce enables you to build, publish, and split-test landing pages. The one-click A/B framework allows you to test your campaigns and learn about your customers by testing different content, offers and ideas. Price: Plans start at $49/month.

Optimizely. Track engagement, clicks, conversions, sign-ups, or anything else that matter to your business. Test changes across multiple pages with A/B and multivariate testing. Target customer visitor segments and optimize your conversion funnel. Price: Plans start at $17/month.

Spur. Spur is a fun and easy way to critique web designs. Just paste a URL (or upload an image) and you’ll be able to use seven different tools to help find what’s working and what isn’t. Price: Free.

Performance Testing

Monitor.us. Monitor.us lets you view your entire web and cloud system, all from one dashboard. Monitor your web applications, databases, site availability, and response time — plus server and network health — from anywhere. Price: Free.

Google PageSpeed Insights. PageSpeed Insights analyzes the content of a web page, then generates suggestions to make that page faster. Price: Free.

Browsera. Browsera tests and reports cross-browser layout differences and scripting errors on your site. With the site crawling feature, test all of your pages. JavaScript errors from each browser are collected and reported after your test is complete. Price: One-time project is $39; monthly plan is free for 25 pages; standard plan is $49/month.

BrowserStack. Test your site in real browsers. Includes smartphone and tablet emulators to test across a large range of devices. Use the automated testing and a wide variety of developer tools. Price: Plans start at $19/month.

Perfecto Mobile. Perfecto Mobile allows you to access real mobile handsets and tablets connected to live mobile networks spread in different geo-locations. Test on each handset and ensure the optimal compatibility of your site, application, or service. Price: Pay per project at $25 per hour; monthly plans start at $15 per hour.

Browsershots. Browsershots makes screenshots of your site in different operating systems and browsers. It is a free open-source online web application, providing developers a convenient way to test their websites’ browser compatibility in one place. Price: Free.

Cross Browser Testing. Cross browser test your website in dozens of browsers with instant results. Test your AJAX, HTML forms, JavaScript, and Flash in almost any browser and operating system. Take snapshots or record video and share with a public link. Price: Plans start at $29.95/month.

W3C mobileOK Checker. This checker performs various tests on a web page to determine its level of mobile-friendliness. It assesses basic usability, efficiency, and interoperability, based on the WS3 Mobile Web Best Practices. Price: Free.

Xenu Link Sleuth. Xenu’s Link Sleuth checks sites for broken links. Link verification is done on links, images, frames, plug-ins, and more. It displays a continuously updated list of URLs that you can sort by different criteria. Price: Free.

SEOmoz. SEOmoz has an assortment of tools to test your site’s SEO health. Check your site with a crawl test, test for broken links, analyze keywords, and much more. Find accessibility issues and track rankings to ensure your optimal performance. Price: Plans start at $99/month.

Link Research Tools. Link Research Tools has a large variety of SEO tools to test your site. Perform a Link Detox to analyze all links to your website and get alerted about toxic and suspicious ones.     actually the more such assessment tools i see, more they look similar. perhaps its a case of far too many for far too less ideas. one would do well to rather concentrate on functional aspects and value propositions. one does not come to a site to get mesmerised but to fulfil his/her needs. http://www.indiacod.com for example is a very ordinary looking site in white/green background but its value proposition is very clear. it wants to offer best prices for select segments of products.. its a clever move and more like to work in the long term…
